Health and Safety

We are fully committed to a process of demonstrable, continuous improvement in the pursuit of health and safety excellence. Robust systems and controls enable us to proactively manage our health and safety activity with the aim of achieving zero accidents.

 What we said in 2007

    • We will improve the reporting of near-misses
    • We will roll-out a Behavioural Change course across VINCI PLC
    • We will add Simplex Foundations Limited and Conren Limited to our 14001 and 18001 certification
    • We will introduce a more sophisticated approach to high and low score audit performance reporting
    • We will bring H, S & EP documents up to date, starting with each company’s policy document
    • We will continue to develop our Occupational Health strategy to reduce absence from work

 What we did in 2008

    • The evidence from our sites indicates that there have been improvements in the area of near misses, although there is still more work to be done
    • We trained 118 people in 2008 and are continuing to roll out the Behavioural Change course across VINCI PLC
    • We sold Simplex Foundations and part of Conren (Ecos Environmental) and so halted the progression of certification
    • We developed and deployed a more sophisticated system which improved audit performance reporting
    • The updating of H, S & EP documents was broadly achieved by updating or consolidating documents within the system
    • Our Occupational Health strategy helped to ensure that the average number of days absence from work remained constant at 4.3 per person

What we are doing in 2009

    • Achieve total integration of the Taylor Woodrow and VINCI PLC businesses and management systems (from a H, S & EP perspective). This will include documentation and certification to both ISO 14001 and ISO 18001
    • Continue to promote the Behavioural Change / Health and Safety Leadership Course as an important tool in the cultural change process
    • Further improve the reporting of near-misses as an important tool in accident prevention
    • Drive down accident rates, absence from work and instances of occupational ill health
