An air handling unit was recently installed at roof level of Bidborough House, a seven-storey 1960s office building being refurbished by the London Region of Crispin & Borst (part of VINCI Construction UK Limited). The unit was delivered in 13 sections ranging in weight from 596kg to 1,856kg.
The £10 million contract at the Housing Department of Camden Council involves the refurbishment of the building’s envelope including new roof coverings, new windows, rain screen cladding and general repairs, as well as increasing the amount of external insulation, all of which will help to improve the office’s carbon footprint.
Internally, the refurbishment includes the complete strip out of the existing partitioning, services and finishes to provide predominantly open plan office accommodation with meeting rooms and welfare facilities.
The building services are to be replaced throughout, including the provision of new air conditioning with multi service active chilled beams, new electrical services and data cabling, and new public health services. A stand-by generator will also be provided combined with an Uninterruptible Power Supply.
The design includes sustainable/renewable energy measures such as solar panels and a supplementary ground water cooling system via two 150m deep bore holes.
