EcoSOIL - The sustainable alternative to landfill for the treatment and disposal of contaminated soils.

EcoSOIL is joint venture between Acumen Waste Services and VINCI Construction UK, to provide remediation services for the clean up of contaminated land throughout the UK.

EcoSOIL’s plant incorporates a unique range of solutions to remove contaminants from land impacted with a wide variety of materials including poly-aromatic hydrocarbons, mineral oils, toxic metals, cyanides and all manner of inorganic and organic contaminants.

The facility processes remediation wastes from low to high-level contamination including non-hazardous, hazardous and WAC-failing materials in a far more cost effective and sustainable manner than landfill.

Mike Turland, General Manager for the EcoSOIL Plant commented “We have proven the EcoSOIL process with successful trials and are confident that we can now deliver large scale remediation projects.”

The process plant operates by grading particles based on their size and physical characteristics. Materials cleansing is achieved using proprietary additives in solution, with materials being washed under a unique high pressure enclosed loop induction system.

Commenting on the opening of the new soil washing plant in Widnes, Acumen’s Business Unit Manager Vicki Homer said; “This is an exciting development and one which I know brings an added dimension to the contractors and consultants who are responsible for the remediation of brownfield and other contaminated sites.”

Vicki continued; “We pride ourselves on providing ethical and compliant solutions for contaminated soils, but inevitably there is still a reliance on landfill. We now offer a much more sustainable alternative with this soil washing process, which cleans the majority of the soil components so they can be recycled. We can even provide laundered clean materials so that they can be sent back to the sites that are being remediated to back fill excavations.”

The EcoSOIL plant can handle more difficult waste streams than traditional soil treatment facilities. Where necessary, adjustments to the process can be made to facilitate the successful removal of some of the most complex contaminants from soils.
