Luton Sixth Form College recently celebrated completing the main structure of this £56 million building project with a topping out ceremony.
Luton North MP, Kelvin Hopkins, who was invited to smooth down the last piece of cement to the highest point of the building said "To see the new Luton Sixth Form College taking shape is wonderful. Both Luton Sixth Form College and VINCI Construction UK Limited must be congratulated.”
The College has also recently been recognised for excellent standards of construction, scoring an impressive 4.5 out of 5 in all areas of the Considerate Constructors Scheme Codes of Practice. The industry average score is currently 31, but the site team at Luton scored well above this with 36 points. The report was highly complementary stating: "The site continues to perform very well with a committed and motivated management team - a very high level of compliance has once again been achieved."
The project is due to be completed by December 2010 and will provide students with state-of-the-art IT facilities, specialist studios and laboratories, as well as a 200-seat multi-function performance space and a comfortable 500-seat restaurant area.
