Research and Development Funding

VINCI Construction UK has secured up to £150,000 of research and development funding from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) which will be used for research into the retrofit of social housing to reduce its carbon footprint. This is in response to the industry agenda for R&D, set by the National Construction Technology Platform, of which VINCI Construction UK is a leading member.

The funding was secured by a team from our Technology and Facilities divisions who put together a proposal that builds on our existing work in this area, using a ‘systems’ approach to establish in quantitative terms, the actual performance of carbon reduction technologies in real life situations.

The programme is 100% funded by the TSB and is in two stages:

  • A feasibility/planning stage, which, if successful, will lead to
  • A full implementation stage, where we will install a range of low carbon technologies into a real house and monitor their performance.

The first stage of the programme starts in September 2009, working with one of our social housing partners, Homezone.

Commenting on this success, Rennie Chadwick, MD of our Technology Division said: “This is an exciting opportunity for VINCI Construction UK to establish a leading position in the field of low carbon technologies and demonstrates our commitment to meeting the national and international challenge of carbon emissions reduction.”
