VINCI Construction UK’s Technology Centre has been commissioned by the Zero Carbon Hub to carry out investigative work into the air permeability of dwellings.
The Zero Carbon Hub is a public/private partnership established to take day-to-day operational responsibility for co-ordinating delivery of low and zero carbon new homes and the Government has agreed that the Zero Carbon Hub has a lead responsibility for delivering homes to zero carbon standards by 2016.
The work will involve carrying out air tightness testing on new dwellings across the UK at various stages of production.
Rob Pannell, Head of House Building for the Hub commented “The Zero Carbon Hub is delighted to have engaged with VINCI on this exciting, ground breaking and innovative ‘air permeability’ research project. The ZCHub will , in conjunction with VINCI, publish progress of its work on a regular basis and we anticipate that the learning gained in this arena will assist designers and builders alike develop details which are both buildable and cost effective. Further the work will be extended to include air quality- an area that requires immediate investment to ensure that homes which are more air tight do not produce unintended consequences for its occupants. It is anticipated that this work will also be used by Communities and Local Government to inform future policy particularly with Part L and F of the building regulations”.
