Her Majesty The Queen has officially opened a national dance companyís headquarters on Londonís South Bank.
Recently completed by VINCI Construction UK, Rambertís £19.6m new home is the culmination of 12 years of planning and includes dance studios, treatment and body conditioning rooms, production workshops, offices and an extensive historical archive.
Accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen was welcomed by Rambertís dancers and staff, as well as VINCI Construction UKís Managing Director Andrew Ridley-Barker and Project Manager Hannah Milner. The pair also spent time touring the building before observing a dance rehearsal.
The building is located on a site owned by social enterprise Coin Street Community Builders and was made available to Rambert in return for a commitment to provide significant community dance programmes in the local area, and for a peppercorn rent of one pair of ballet shoes a year.
Rambertís chair, Sir Howard Panter, said: ďItís a huge honour and greatly appreciated by everyone at Rambert and by all those who have worked so hard to support the building of our new world class home, to have Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh officially open it.Ē
