Students wait in anticipation as they watch their new student village take shape

Students of Bangor University can see their new £38m student village take shape as contractor VINCI Construction UK has started building work at the Santes Fair site.

The new Santes Fair Village will comprise 602 student rooms across seven buildings, together with social and administration buildings.

The layout of the new accommodation will surround the two existing buildings which will be refurbished as part of the contract. The two retained buildings will form the heart of the village and will include social and community space for students to enjoy.

Peter Dodd, Senior Project Manager for VINCI Construction UK, said:

“The team are delighted to start building work at Bangor. St Mary’s Student Village will provide a modern and sustainable living campus, retaining the best of the existing buildings and all the history they represent to previous residents as part of a purpose-built village which is something students have wanted a long time for. The completed project will really enhance the residents’ university experience.”

Mark McNamee, Managing Director for Developer, Cityheart Ltd, said:

“This is perhaps a unique concept for students living in the UK, creating a true sustainable village with a hierarchy of social space incorporating all aspects of student life.”

The project is due for completion in September 2015, in time for next year’s student intake.
