Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust has appointed Integrated Health Projects (IHP) to build a new £4m Recovery Academy, which will provide a range of free educational courses and resources for people with mental health and substance misuse problems in Greater Manchester.
The new two-storey building will house the Recovery Academy on the ground floor and the Trust’s executive suite will be located on the first. A car park is also part of the contract to accommodate staff and students attending academy courses.
Claire Watson, the Trust’s lead for the Recovery Academy, said:
“Recovery is at the heart of everything we do and we are so excited that there will be a physical base for the academy which reflects this. The aim is to deliver recovery education to help people sustain their recovery and gain confidence in pursuing employment or further education as well as giving an insight for carers of what it is like to live with certain mental health conditions.
The academy has over 1000 students registered and it is a massive boost to see the Trust invest so heavily in its future.”
John Roberts, Regional Director for IHP, said:
“This is the third consecutive contract with the Trust; each scheme adding value to the facilities and enhancing patients’ care. The new Recovery Academy will help service users, and their families gain an in-depth understanding about mental health problems.
We are greatly looking forward to working with the Trust and continuing our relationship to enhance mental health services for people in Greater Manchester.”
Integrated Health Projects is a joint venture between VINCI Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine, who delivered the first contract in November 2011 for the Trust. This resulted in a new £10m, two-storey Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in-patient facility, known as Junction 17.
The second contract was completed last month and encompassed the expansion of an existing Medium Secure Unit to house additional live-in units and office space for staff.
