VINCI Construction UK has started work on the £9.7m extension and refurbishment contract at the Derwent Centre; a mental health unit owned and run by the North Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (NEP). The Unit is located within the grounds of the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex.
The Derwent Centre provides in-patient wards and day centre facilities for mentally ill patients in West Essex. When completed, the refurbishment will provide two new wards, each with single en-suite rooms, and a new extension providing daily activities for service users, together with lounge space, a dining room and servery.
Further works include landscaping outdoor spaces and installing a new boiler system for the Centre.
Jocelyn Whittaker -Smith, Project Manager from VINCI Construction UK, said:
“We are delighted to start building work at the Derwent Centre, which will be a vital addition to mental health services in Essex. The consideration and planning that has gone into the project means that patients will be very well-placed to receive specialist care in a first-class environment.”
The project is due for completion in October 2016.
