Formula E headquarters at Donington Park, the new home for the new global racing series of the Federation International de I’Automobile’s (FIA), has won Construction Project of the Year at the Insider East Midlands Property Awards Dinner 2014.
The project demonstrated best practice for construction and design, which helped beat off stiff competition, including Silverstone who followed in second place for their new University Technical College.
The black tie event was hosted at The Nottingham Belfry and recognised projects in the East Midlands for best practice in construction, real estate and design.
Situated at the renowned Leicestershire Circuit, the headquarters was built by VINCI Construction UK in just 16 weeks and is home to 10 Formula E teams. The development also encompasses office space, stores and workshops.
Kevin Wheatcroft, Chairman of Donington Park, said:
“We have had an excellent year here at Donington Park, but it’s not just our action on the track which is turning heads in the industry. The development of the FIA Formula E headquarters was a remarkable project, especially given the exceptionally tight turnaround. It was a pleasure to work with VINCI Construction UK and to enjoy the support of the Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership. We’re very proud to be the home to this innovative race series and equally happy to have had our partners and our own work recognised as Construction Project of the Year.”
Keith Shivers, Regional Director for VINCI Construction UK, added:
“Delivery of this prestigious project was certainly a challenge - the tight timescale to have the project completed for Formula E’s official opening date - but confident it could be achieved in time because of the collaboration between our designers, Pick Everard, our client, and the project team.
We are delighted that the success of the team’s efforts has been recognised by this award and we look forward to continuing our successful relationship with Donington Park.”
