Local Mayor declares Pitsea Market Square ‘Officially open’

Basildon Mayor, Councillor Mo Larkin BEM JP has officially opened the Pitsea Market Square development and ALDI supermarket in Essex. Both facilities were completed by VINCI Construction UK for London & Cambridge Properties and are a main part of the £10.8m regeneration plan for the town centre.

Market Square’s 89 stalls offer fresh, local food produce, alongside clothing and home-ware.

The Mayor also cut the ribbon on the new ALDI store, where local people queued for several hours to be among the supermarket’s first customers.

The ALDI store, together with the soon-to-be-opened Morrison’s supermarket, encompasses 8,000sqm of space, making it one of the largest supermarket developments in the area.

The supermarkets and other new developments are set to bring much-needed footfall and trade to the Essex town, as well as providing job opportunities for many local people.

VINCI Construction UK is currently extending Pitsea’s car parking facilities. They are also providing surrounding shops and businesses with a much needed ‘transformation’, which includes the external refurbishment of office building, Pembroke House.

Regional Director Chris Thwaite, said: “Our construction work at Pitsea has allowed us to be part of the much needed regeneration transforming the outlook of the project at every stage. People from near and far are already flocking to the Market Square, and with the completion of the supermarkets and car park, our work really will be instrumental in the economic regrowth of the town.

We regularly engage with members of the public and we act on their feedback. We have received positive comments about the speed of the delivery and the way we have delivered the project.
We also thank the Tenant’s and Centre Manager for their continued patience during the works.”

The first phase included a new car park for the medical centre built, which was built in just nine weeks. The whole development will be completed in time in February 2015.
