Client: Muse Developments
Situated within a new £230m civic and cultural quarter, Cast has become Doncaster’s landmark new performance venue. Not only does the facility offer the opportunity for creative and cultural exchange between artists and audiences, it is also perfectly positioned to attract local, national and international companies to its spaces.
Work on the £22m project included the construction of a 620 seat auditorium, a flexible studio space, drama studio, dance studio, education and ancillary space, and a large foyer with café.
Architecturally, Cast was designed with the South Yorkshire town’s industrial heritage in mind. Distinct features of the building include a dividing wall between the 620-seat auditorium and foyer, resembling a flowing stage curtain, which can be viewed and admired through the glazed outer façade.
Michael Broadhead, Project Director at Muse, said: “Cast is a wonderful addition to the scheme adding culture to the quarter. VINCI Construction UK and the design team have worked extremely hard to deliver the building on time and to budget and we’re delighted with the end result.”
