Streatham Hub is breathing new life into Streatham’s bustling high street. Combining new homes, leisure facilities and a major retail unit, the mixed-use development is a significant step forward for the south London suburb.
A six-lane, 25m pool provides over 1,000 seats for spectators, while the ice rink above is used for ice hockey as well as skating. The ice rink is the first in Europe to be built directly above a swimming pool.
Opened by Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle, the facilities also include a 13m teaching swimming pool, a four court sports hall and 100 gym stations.
The final phase of the scheme encompassed 250 affordable, shared ownership and private flats, with a lower ground level car park for 540 parking spaces and Tesco Extra supermarket.
Overall, Streatham Hub was constructed to BREEAM Very Good/Good standard. The tightly confined site’s potential was maximised through strategic planning and phasing, extensive value engineering, and the relocation of ice and bus facilities during the build.
