With over 15,000 students and around 2,600 staff, the university is a major part of the academic, economic and social structure of the City of Bath.
10 West provides a new centre of operations for the expanding Department of Psychology, and features a suite of purpose built laboratories alongside general teaching and research accommodation. The expanded accommodation includes the new Centre for Applied Autism Research (CAAR), a new home for the Institute for Policy Research and a dedicated postgraduate study space on its upper floors.
The project won the Building Quality category for the Public/Commercial section in the Local LABC Awards as well as picking up a Highly Commended Award for Design Quality and now progresses to the regional heats.
“The building is fabulous! It is pleasant and spacious with a design that works very well in every area. One idea was the integration of academic staff, PhD students and research fellows. Today all these folk were walking and talking amongst each other and I am confident that this concept will really help us to establish a vibrant research culture.”
Professor Bas Verplanken, Head of Department of Psychology
