Integrated Health Projects (a joint venture betweenVINCI Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine) has been awarded an £18 million contract to redevelop the Emergency Department at Medway Maritime Hospital including the construction of a new Children’s department, Minors area and Majors waiting area.
To mark the occasion, a specially engraved spade was presented to Medway Maritime Hospital from Integrated Health Projects (IHP).
The new build of the Majors department will resolve the issues of overcrowding by doubling its capacity from 12 to 24 cubicles and the resuscitation area will increase from five bays to seven.
The redevelopment comes at a crucial time as the department continues to face challenges in terms of capacity and operational issues – originally built to accommodate around 45,000 visitors, the department now sees more than 110,000 people per year.
