VINCI Construction UK have recently achieved Practical Completion on two projects for Lotus cars at their historic base in Hethel, Norfolk.
With Lotus expanding its headquarters, the team completed a shell and core contract for a 15,500m sq office, car production line and paint shop facility. This will eventually offer technology that has never been seen before in Norfolk. It will mean 5,000 cars can be produced a year in 40-hour working weeks, compared to 1,500 currently made. The factory has two-storeys and offices looking out over the test track.
The team have also completed a 1,600sqm facility to offer a new staff restaurant and cafe, to open shortly, with its design inspired by the Lotus cars. The ceilings are exposed and outside, the front canopy mimics the line of the car spoilers and suspension. The facility can accommodate up to 700 people, with outdoor seating planned, and can be used for corporate events. At one end a shop and showroom for dealers will be set up.
Katie Fenn, VINCI Construction UK’s Project Manager said: “This project was challenging to say the least; we were hampered firstly throughout last year with delays due to storms Ciara, Dennis and Jorge and then working through the COVID-19 pandemic. The team have all pulled together during these difficult circumstances and I am delighted the client is extremely pleased with the result.”
