New Victoria Residential scheme helps Lifeshare Charity

Partners behind the £115m residential phase at Manchesterís New Victoria - national urban regenerator, Muse Developments, owner, Pension Insurance Corporation and main contractor VINCI Construction UK, came together with Lifeshare, Manchesterís oldest charity that supports homeless and vulnerable people in the city, to provide the location for its Christmas Project.

Actress Maxine Peake opened the annual Christmas Project held by Lifeshareís Christmas Project which offers homeless people and those in crisis a place to find hot meals, companionship, medical and personal care, shower facilities, veterinary care and other amenities with the aim to reduce isolation and bring people together over the Christmas period.

The event took weeks of planning and on the 23rd December the project teams and Lifeshare began to transform the site accommodation into a home. The teams all came together to erect outdoor marquees, build doggy day care, set up hair salons and fully stock the kitchen with over 100 Christmas turkeys! Towels and toiletries were also stocked in the shower facilities for the Lifeshare guests to enjoy.

Throughout the seven day period, over 338 guests arrived with 2070 meals served, 34 haircuts and trims given, 16 doctor appointments met, 12 eye tests were carried out along with 100s of warm showers and 300+ new track suits, jackets and sleeping bags given out.

A warm and welcoming environment was created over the festive period with the site opening at 7 am and closing at 8 pm. It was a very poignant event and a huge thank you goes to the partners involved, the site team and their families, our subcontractors and local partners who went above and beyond. It really did make people who are not as fortunate as others, a Christmas that was a little bit more special.

The partners helping to make this Lifeshare Christmas Project happen at the New Victoria residential development include: VINCI Construction UK, Muse Developments, PIC, Chroma, Walker Sime, ARUP, HAALO and WSP.
