VINCI Construction UK celebrated a successful ground-breaking ceremony on the multi-use research and residential centre at Pool Street West recently. The development is one of the first two buildings at the university’s new UCL East campus.
The event saw over 50 people attend including client stakeholders and UCL Estates, LLDC, Turner & Townsend, AECOM, Deloitte, LDS, Hilson Moran, AKTII, Sheppard Robson, Buro Happold and Elementa.
A tour included an overview of site operations, groundworks and piling with speeches from Michael Arthur, UCL President & Provost, Paola Lettieri, Academic Director UCL East, Kevin Argent, Deputy Director of Estates & Director of Estates Development and Chris Hamer, Managing Director VINCI Construction UK Building Division.
Chris Hamer said: “thanks to our design partners, the design work is well progressed, and it won’t be long before we start to see the main concrete frame rise above the hoarding.
“In an age where Environmental and Corporate Social Responsibility is at the fore, it is good that we have a close working relationship to work together and minimise any disruptions.
“At VINCI Construction UK, we are absolutely delighted to be working with UCL on this prestigious project and hope that our working relationship can extend for many years to come”.
The construction will see the Pool Street West building evolve to where researchers and students will be working across disciplines ranging from robotics, mobility and disability to ecological sustainability, urbanisation, culture, art and history.
