Client: Rambert Dance Company
Rambert’s move from Chiswick to the heart of London’s South Bank cultural hub was the culmination of a ten-year planning and development journey.
The decade-long process has certainly paid off. The new six-storey £19.6m headquarters offers much more than a performance venue and dance school.
The development includes three dance studios, treatment/physiotherapy rooms, enough rehearsal space for dancers to work with a full orchestra, visitor facilities and ample room to accommodate Rambert’s vast archives – the most extensive dance collection in the world.
As well as handling unusual engineering obstacles, the project team overcame the logistical challenges of transporting T-beams through central London amidst the restrictions of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
Rambert’s new home was opened by Her Majesty the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh in March 2014 and secured an award from the Royal Institute of Architects.
