The business of constructing and maintaining buildings and infrastructure has an unavoidable effect on the environment. Our aim is to reduce the negative impacts, continuously improving our practices for the long-term sustainability of our business, communities and environment.
Energy is our key environmental focus as we continue to deliver the Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) recommended energy management plan. Every year we are working harder to reduce our overall consumption and CO2 emissions.
We apply a creative, innovative approach to the task. For example, we have developed the VINCI Green Cabin – a site office with significantly improved energy performance, water management and welfare features.
We work with our supply chain to increase reuse and recycling, reduce waste to landfill, manage energy consumption and performance, and reduce carbon emissions and water consumption. We set ourselves challenging targets, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030.
We select materials and equipment which have minimal environmental impact, favouring products with higher proportions of recycled materials and those that comply with responsible, certified sourcing schemes. For example, we procure timber from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) approved sources.
One way we act to reduce material dependency and enable reuse is through working with supply chain partners on innovative circular economic solutions.
The expertise of our world-class Technology Centre enables the development of structures and processes that make more efficient use of energy and natural resources while reducing emissions and waste.
