There’s no better way to get a feel for the job than to spend time with people who know it the best. A placement allows you to apply your skills – such as numeracy, IT, team work and problem solving – to a working environment. Most importantly, you will experience the industry first hand, helping you to decide whether it is right for you.

Prior to a 13 week work placement at the Victoria Station Upgrade project, I worked as a structural design engineer in a consulting engineering firm before going on to study environmental engineering. Having been unemployed for two years and with little experience, it has been extremely difficult to find employment in this field.
Working for the company has given me the opportunity to gain practical experience to further develop and achieve my career goals of becoming a chartered environmental engineer, and has also helped me to bridge the gap in a change of careers from structural to environmental engineering.
